GETTING AROUND. A car is not essential. All the facilities to combine relaxation and activities are all close-by. (Please note that the timings given for distance to amenities in minutes means by car unless walking is specified.) The local transport service is by the "Dolmus". These are small efficient minibuses that pick up anywhere along the route. The dolmus can be picked up 5 mins walk downhill from the villa to take you to Ovacik, Hisaronu and Fethiye, and collects you from the hotel next door to the beach and lagoon when applicable. The mobile phone is programmed with a friendly taxi driver who invariably undercharges! Car hire is available at reasonable rates (the villa manual will point you in the right direction) useful if you want to explore the beautiful interior and archaeological sites around the Turquoise Coast.
TURQUOISE COAST Olu Deniz consists of the resort village and the famous lagoon. The lagoon is one of the most photographed areas in the Mediterranean let alone in Turkey. Despite this, the area remains unspoilt and is a protected conservation area. Your small entry fee contributes to maintaining its natural beauty. Olu Deniz resort has been carefully constructed. All hotels, restaurants and shops have red tiled roofs and are height restricted.There is a variety of small shops, bars and restaurants in the one high street and promenade. Most hotels welcome non-guests to use their facilities, a few of which have Turkish Baths. The atmospere of Olu Deniz will appeal to those seeking both sophistication or simplicity. Hisaronu is located on a plateau 1000 ft above Olu Deniz with a 10 min car drive between them. It is a resort in its own right with numerous hotels and apartments and offers a wide selection of restaurants serving international cuisine. There is the choice of a hectic night life or quiet evenings enjoying the warm barmy weather outside. Noise control is strict in Turkey, the Gendarma do not allow it after 12mn unless the bars have sound proofing. The shops abound, so its suggested you buy an extra suitcase to bring home the bargains!! Activities in the area include scuba diving, horse riding, water skiing, parascending, banana boats, ringos and pedaloes , boat hire, boat trips, jeep safaris. Olu Deniz is popular amongst Europeans partial to a bit of paragliding from Mount Babadag which is 6,800 feet high.The view of the famous lagoon is spectacular from so high!! The landings form entertainment for those on the beach. Archaeological trips to Ephesus, Lykia, Xantos and many more are available from Hisaronu. Pamukkale with its natural limestone formations will appeal to the geologists and those looking for the spectacular.
