It has many magnificent sights, along with a busy centre with a good range of restaurants, cafes and cultural attractions like art galleries you can view the work of local artists at the Neka Art Museum. Traditional dance performances are also commonplace in Ubud.
Around the town you have several temples such as Tirta Empul and Pura Taman Saraswati, and scenic walks through the rice fields are a relaxing way to spend the day. Less relaxing, but perhaps intriguing, the Sacred Monkey Forest is a popular attraction just try to keep your distance from the numerous monkeys who are notorious for stealing from visitors. Also nearby is the Bali Swing adventure park which offers quad-biking, rafting and other activities, as well as the Instagram-worthy swings, and the well-trodden path of the Campuhan Ridge a great place to head out early for a hike.
Over on the western coast, Seminyak provides designer shopping, excellent dining and an all-round chilled atmosphere. With wonderful beaches and yoga retreats, its definitely worth a visit, and around an hours drive from Ubud.
