Nerja has the ambience and style of a lively Spanish town. The Moorish
influence becomes apparent as you stroll through the narrow roads lined
with whitewashed buildings which abound with interesting shops and
restaurants. The beaches are equally enticing with rocky outcrops and
sandy and pebbly beaches all competing for space next to the tranquil sea.
Nerja is blooming that captures both the
beauty of the place and its success with the tourist trade. Large hotels

town. Life takes a lazy stroll along beautiful Balcon de Europa, Nerja's
stunning promenade and centre.
Sitting at the foot of the Almijara
mountains, surrounded by agricultural activity, Nerja is planted in the
middle of a huge, sweet-smelling garden of exotic fruits.

discerning traveller, with a spectacular coastline and rocky coves. As
night falls, there is a wide variety of cosmopolitan restaurants and bars,

million year old caves, with caverns, a concert hall and feisty festival,
its year round festival season, where all ages dance on the beaches until
the mall hours and the beaches.

Burriana beach, which is lined by an attractive promenade, is the biggest

in Europe. With cathedral-like rooms and wall paintings believed to be

into an auditorium - if you're lucky enough to be in Nerja during a
concert, you'll be witness to an unforgettable occasion.
Torrox, a very white town with 12000
inhabitants, is 45 km. away from Malaga and 20 from Velez and sheltered
from the Northern winds by the mountains of Tejeda. Still untouched by
tourist development you can truly appreciate the Spanish way of life you
can find popular architecture such as the Moorish Quarter and wine and
raisin presses and interesting industrial architecture such as the Sugar
Factory.
It has three main centres - Torrox
Costa and El Morche on the coast, and Torrox Pueblo 4 kilometres inland
and 125 metres above sea level. Torrox Pueblo has retained its white
Moorish village structure with attractive narrow streets and a main square
which is a lively meeting place. Much of the town has beautiful views down
to the coast. There was once a Moorish castle on top of the hill on which
the town stands where, it is claimed, King Almanzor was born in the 10th
century.
