Fuerteventura spells relax and chill out.
Holidays there are made for taking it easy. If you're in search of an
away-from-it-all retreat that'll really recharge your batteries, then this
place is ideal. Soft white sands, rolling waves and attractive resorts
make Fuerteventura a natural playground for beach lovers and watersports
enthusiasts.
If you don't want to do anything more
energetic than lie on the shore and soak up the sun, Fuerteventura is the
place - days seem to come to a blissful standstill and evenings roll on
endlessly towards the cobalt blue horizon. A wealth of beauty spots are
sprinkled around the golden coastline and the dramatic, volcanic interior,
while cosmopolitan resorts flaunt an excellent array of restaurants and
bars
For a start, take a look at the beaches. One
word – wow. Fuerteventura is home to some of the finest beaches in
the Canaries – 152 unspoilt stretches of silky sand and translucent seas,
many of which lie completely empty. A Fuerteventura holiday is all about
ribbons of sands that snake into the distance. Turquoise waters that offer
up an amazing menu of watersports. And lashings of warm sunshine that'll
give you a gorgeous all-over glow. As far as beach holidays go, this
holiday hotspot's got all the bases covered.
For clear calm waters, it doesn't get much better than Costa Caleta. The
horseshoe-shaped bay is sheltered by breakwaters making it a safe swimming
spot that's perfect for families. This sheltered resort lies on the east
coast of the island, only 7 kilometres from Fuerteventura airport. As well
as offering a selection of amenities, Costa Caleta is an excellent base
for exploring the island by hire car. Caleta de Fuste is modern,
interspersed with rows of palm trees and original buildings including the
watchtower and the old castle near the harbour and marina. Costa Caleta is
suitable for couples and families alike.
Corralejo has more than sun and sand but
that is not to say that the amazing seven-mile stretch of golden beach is
not one of the resort's major attractions. Or that the almost guaranteed
sunshine, during the summer holidays or in the winter, isn't another big
plus point. Corralejo, Fuerteventura's largest resort, has a winning
combination – an idyllic beach stretching situated just 3 km from the
resort centre, plus the best nightlife on the island. Located
approximately 36 km from the airport, the original fishing village is
still the heart of the resort surrounded by tasteful modern buildings.
Corralejo is well known for Baku waterpark.
Glide along the lazy river, or if you're feeling more energetic, hold onto
your swimwear as you ride the kamikaze, zig zag, wavepool or venture into
the black hole. There are kids pools and smaller slides for the little
ones, too.
For peace and quiet, Costa Calma is ideal if
you want to get away from it all, especially if you're a sun-worshipper as
the resort has a 30 km long stretch of golden sand with water sports in
high season. This purpose-built resort is situated 27 kilometres north of
Jandia on the south coast of the island, attracts guests from all over
Europe and is a popular spot for naturists.
Then, of course, there are the sun-bleached
sands of Jandia. Couples will love this slice of sunbathing paradise and
even the fussiest beach fanatics will find it hard to fault holidays in
Jandia. Because this classy resort on Fuerteventura's south east coast
boasts one of the biggest and most breathtaking beaches you'll ever see.
Stretching over 32 kilometres, washed by blue seas and cooled by
refreshing Atlantic breezes, it's fabulous for sun-seekers, windsurfers,
water-skiers and surfers. No wonder then that they flock here to snooze on
the sands and ride the waves, all against a movie-set backdrop of vast
mountains and blue skies.
Yet while holidays to Jandia centre on the beach, there's still enough to
coax you away … occasionally. As well as its tax-free beachfront shops,
the resort has some lively bars and nightspots to up the tempo after
dinner. And for days out, the traditional fishing village of Morro Jable
and wilds of Jandia National Park are easy to reach.
