Cortijo Namaste was once our family home before moving back to the UK. It is now lovingly looked after and relished during our holidays. It is south-facing and enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year and very mild winters; and is just 15 minutes drive from the beach resorts of the Costa Tropical; 40 minutes from the historic city of Granada and World Heritage Alhambra Palace; 55 minutes from the Sierra Nevada National Park and ski resort; and 75 minutes drive from Malaga International Airport. Built in 2004, it is a mixture of modern clean lines blended with traditional Andalusian exterior styling and is most definitely a 'home from home'. It is largely distributed on one level with a small, split-level to the master bedroom and is set for 6 guests but can accommodate up to 8 and runs completely on solar-power. It offers an open-plan living area with a lounge, dining room and fully-equipped kitchen; a separate sitting room; and a large master bedroom with sitting area and en-suite shower room, a large twin bedroom and a smaller bedroom with bunk beds; and a family bathroom. Without a doubt, the highlight of the property is the generous outdoor space that it offers with it's stunning pool with sweeping views over the lush sub-tropical valley, extensive patio areas including a large pool terrace with poolside kitchen, toilet and outdoor shower, in addition to having a garden area and a number of fruit terraces which meander down the hillside. It's a great place to switch off and relax and makes an ideal base for a multitude of activities - beach, golf, ski, hiking and culture. It lies on the entrance to the valley of Los Guajares, a short drive from the traditional white-washed mountain villages of Guajar Fondon (10mins), Guajar Faraguit (8-10mins) and Guajar Alto (15mins). The valley sits within dramatic limestone peaks covered with lush plantations of avocado trees, olive groves and pine forests. There are a number of well-signposted walking routes of varying length and magnitude that take you beyond the villages where you can truly enjoy the natural beauty that the valley has to offer, including the remote ruins of the 14th Century Moorish Castle situated above Guajar Faraguit and the waterfalls and bathing areas of Guajar Alto. ​The villages have a collective population of approx. 2000 local inhabitants and are supported by a thriving agricultural economy and rural tourism. Each village has it's own supermarket and bars, serving drinks, tapas and raciones. The principal village, Guajar Faraguit, also has a bakery, bank, post-office, doctors surgery and pharmacy. Leaving the valley, just 5-8 minutes drive from Cortijo Namaste, is the bustling town of Velez de Benaudalla with a good choice of bars with terraces for relaxed evening dining al fresco. The Costa Tropical is a blend of traditional Spanish beaches and characterful Mediterranean villages dotted along a rugged romantic coastline. It's more relaxed than the Costa del Sol and offers a wide range of restaurants, bars, shopping and history. Your local beach resorts are Salobrena (15 mins), Playa de Granada Motril (15 mins) , Almunecar (20 mins), La Herradura (25 mins) and Nerja (30 mins); all of which enjoy warm winters (15-20 deg) and long hot summers (30-40 deg) and are a mixture of clean sand and stony beaches with water-sports and life-guards available during the Summer. Granada, is an extremely elegant, cosmopolitan city steeped in Moorish history and 'a must see' during your trip. Renowned for being home to the World Heritage Alhambra Palace (14th Century Moorish fortress, the most visited monument in Spain); the Capilla Real (royal mausoleum) of the Christian crusaders Isabel and Ferdinand; the vibrant colours and exotic smells of its Arabic quarter, the ​Albaicin; the Sacromonte gypsy caves offering live flamenco; the ancient Silk Bazaars, and; of course, the multitude of lively tapas bars famed throughout Spain. The Sierra Nevada is home to the highest mountains in mainland Spain, El Mulhacen (3479m) and La Veleta (3396m) and rich in fauna and flora, highlights include the Spanish ibex and the endemic 'Star of the Snows' and a fine display of raptors such as the golden eagle and griffin vulture. Also home to Spain's premier ski resort with a ski season lasting from Dec-April and pistes stretching 94.8 km.​ The Alpujarras are a stunning region of white-washed 'Berber' mountain villages sitting on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada. Definitely not to be missed! Steeped in history, folk tradition and local artisan produce and handicrafts. The villages of Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira are prime destinations for walkers and home to the Poqueira Gorge and the foothills of Mulhacen. Other villages to note, Trevelez (famed for its cured hams and being the highest village in Europe) and Lanjaron (famed for its mineral water and for the curative properties of its spas). ​The Costa Tropical also offers a vast array of activities, many of which are no more than 30 minutes drive from the Cortijo. They include Golf at Los Moriscos Club de Golf, Playa de Granada; water parks in Almunecar and Granada; windsurfing at La Herradura; horse-riding in Las Alpujarras; mountain biking and trekking on your doorstep in Los Guajares and throughout Las Alpujarras and the Sierra Nevada; paragliding from the hills around Almunecar; and rock-climbing. Please Note: That as the pool is not heated, it is only seasonally available for use during the months of June, July, August and September. At all other times, the pool will be covered but the surrounding poolside patio and kitchen can still be enjoyed. It is also important to note, that due to the nature of the terrain, this property is not recommended for guests with mobility issues and young children because of the number of steps around the outside of property and vertical drops between the banks of fruit terraces. Furthermore, please note that the property is accessed via a rural track that gently climbs the hillside and consists of a mixture of concrete and leveled-dirt sections. It is approx. a 5-6 mins drive along this track from the main road before you arrive at the property. Although a normal car can be driven with care on this track, we recommend that you rent a vehicle with greater height clearance such as a multi-space /people carrier or a SUV. A 4x4 vehicle is not necessary. Thank you!
