Torremolinos offers so much more
these days than fish and chips and bucket and spade. Travel to
Torremolinos and you'll find a resort for all seasons and all ages.
The world is your oyster in non-stop
Torremolinos from the waterpark to karaoke, golfing to jet-skiing. But
there are areas where you can still get a taste of the old Spain. Take a
stroll down to Carihuella for example.
The largest and the most commercialised resort on the Costa Del Sol, Torremolinos has been popular with the British for years, attracted by its lively night and beach life. It is just 11.5 kilometres west of Malaga and an excellent rail service runs to the town from the airport. Boisterous, full of fun and noisy in high season, Torremolinos stretches for seven kilometres along the coast on either side of a rocky headland.
Take a stroll on the promenade linking
Torremolnos with Benalmadena and stop at one of the many 'chiringuitos'
(beach bars) for a fresh sea food lunch. Nothing is very far from a beach
of clay-coloured sand, where watersports abound in mid-summer. You'll
never be short of things to do in Torremolinos with every amenity
available including a water park, golf, tennis and ten-pin bowling!
Outside Torremolinos lies Benalmadena.
Holidays in Benalmadena sum up all that's great about the Costa Del Sol.
It's got more than its fair share of award winning beaches. It's got
bustle and noise and then pockets of peace, beautiful park and a
stunning marina. Yet it's got attractions and nightlife that would make
some cities green with envy.
Benalmadena is now a very large busy cosmopolitan resort. Set in a beautiful coastal area, you will find wonderful beaches lapped by a crystal-clear sea. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Sierra de Mijas mountains, its cl;assy marina has achieved world acclaim. discos or salsa bars for an evening of fun and laughter?
Above Benalmadena lies Benalmadena Pueblo where you can stroll the cobbled streets and soak up traditional Spain. Here you can experience a slice of traditional Spain in a pretty mountain village. Typically Andalucian, you can't help but fall for the charms of this hidden hamlet, with its tangle of narrow streets and sugar-cube houses. Spend leisurely days strolling flower-strewn streets and mooching round olde-world shops. It's peaceful, it's picturesque and it's perfect if you're looking to relax.
The closest beach is Playa Bonita, which is
approximately 4 kilometres away. Why not explore the local culture and
visit the impressive Castillo De Colomares? A monument to Christopher
Columbus, celebrating his arrival in the New World, this towering castle
looks like it's dripping with icing and is a remarkable modern piece of
architecture. You can also see the Estupa de la Illuminacion, the largest
Buddhist monument in the western world. Topped with a golden cone that can
be seen for miles, it symbolises harmony and prosperity and is a
delighftully peaceful spot.
For a taste of more modern life, head to Arroyo de la Miel about 5kms away. Lying above Benalmadena, it is where everyday Spain lives, shops and parties. Here you can try the fun of the Tivoli fun park or catch the cable car high into the mountains.
West of Malaga lies the well-developed resort of Fuengirola. Home to the Costa Del Sol's longest stretch of beach, this lively town also plays host to the best open-air market on the coast. Fuengirola attracts a wide range of people and is particularly popular with couples and families. At the centre of the resort is the picturesque old town - a cluster of winding streets and elegant squares peppered with stylish shops and tapas bars. Try a walk down Fish Alley or a walk down the long, palm-lined waterfront promenade which leads to numerous cafes and a picturesque harbour flanked by bars, discos and restaurants.
There's important choices to make about holidays in Fuengirola. Should you spend all day in the sun, on the soft warm sand? Or save up some energy so you can dance til dawn? Fuengirola and Los Boliches have great beaches and variety for everyone. Think of a food and you're bound to find a restaurant serving it on Calle Moncayo. Think of your favourite pub and there's one like it among the 50 British bars down the Calle Capitan. Think of a themed club, and you'll stroll into it. A Beetle car bar. An aquarium club. Drinkeries outdoors and underground. Cheesy disco to hard house – just take your pick. And for some local flavour, look out for Fuengirola's festivals.
